GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Rockstar has not announced a PC version, and the studio has stayed characteristically silent about one. For PC players this feels frustrating — but it is not a surprise, and history strongly suggests patience will be rewarded. Here is the full picture.

Why Rockstar skips PC at launch

This is simply how Rockstar operates. Grand Theft Auto V launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013; the PC version arrived in April 2015 — about 19 months later, and it became one of the best-selling PC games of all time. Red Dead Redemption 2 followed the same script: consoles in October 2018, PC in November 2019, again to huge success.

The reasons are practical rather than mysterious. Consoles are a fixed target, so Rockstar can squeeze every ounce out of PS5 and Series X hardware first. The PC ecosystem — thousands of GPU, CPU and driver combinations — needs a separate, lengthy optimization phase. And a delayed PC release creates a second launch event, extending the game’s commercial window rather than splitting it.

When could GTA 6 come to PC?

If the pattern holds — and it has held for two decades of Rockstar releases — a PC version would arrive roughly 12 to 24 months after the console launch, putting realistic expectations somewhere in the 2027-2028 window. Rockstar has not confirmed this timeline, so treat it as informed expectation, not fact. When a PC version is announced, official system requirements will be revealed at the same time — see our GTA 6 PC requirements guide for what your machine will realistically need.

Ignore “PC port leaked” rumors. Until Rockstar’s Newswire says otherwise, any website or video claiming GTA 6 is coming to PC on day one — or offering a downloadable PC build — is fake, and the download variety is usually malware.

What about last-gen consoles?

Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has mentioned a PS4 or Xbox One version of GTA 6, and no such version has appeared in any official material. Given that the game’s technology is built around current-gen hardware — fast SSD streaming, dense simulation, advanced lighting — a last-gen port looks extremely unlikely. GTA V served the PS3/PS4/PS5 generations across a decade; GTA 6’s ambitions are firmly aimed at the current one.

FAQ

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?

Rockstar has not announced a PC version. Based on GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, a PC release 12-24 months after console launch is the realistic expectation.

Can I play GTA 6 on PS4 or Xbox One?

There is no last-gen version. GTA 6 targets PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only.

Will GTA 6 be on Steam?

GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both came to Steam after their PC releases, so a Steam release for the eventual GTA 6 PC version is highly likely — but nothing is confirmed yet.

Should I buy a console for GTA 6?

If you do not want to wait for the PC version, a PS5 or Xbox Series X is the only way to play on day one, November 19, 2026. Otherwise, waiting for the PC version also means waiting for official PC requirements and Rockstar’s usual post-launch polish.
