Rockstar Games has revealed new details about Grand Theft Auto 6, and one of the biggest surprises is a gameplay system designed for players who prefer a less violent approach.
In a recent interview with Famitsu, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson confirmed that GTA 6 will introduce a brand-new suppressive fire mechanic, giving players non-lethal options during combat encounters.
New Suppressive Fire System Explained
According to Nelson, players will be able to intentionally fire near enemies rather than directly at them. The goal is to intimidate, distract, or force opponents into cover, creating opportunities to escape dangerous situations without killing anyone.
“You can intentionally miss and shoot at a nearby target to intimidate or confuse them, buying you time to escape,” Nelson explained.
The feature is intended to provide more freedom in how players approach missions and confrontations throughout Leonida.
Stealth and Non-Lethal Gameplay Become More Viable
While GTA 6 follows the story of criminal protagonists Jason and Lucia, Rockstar says many missions can be completed without resorting to lethal force.
Nelson cited robbery scenarios as an example, explaining that players may be able to enter stores undetected, avoid triggering alarms, complete objectives, and leave before police or witnesses become involved.
This opens the door for stealth-focused playstyles that were rarely practical in previous GTA titles.
More Non-Lethal Tools Available
Reports have already confirmed that players will have access to tasers and other methods of incapacitating targets without killing them.
Additional gameplay details suggest players can:
- Shoot weapons out of enemies’ hands
- Disable opponents by targeting arms or legs
- Use suppressive fire to avoid direct combat
- Complete certain missions through stealth and intimidation
These mechanics indicate Rockstar is significantly expanding player choice compared to previous entries in the series.
Honor System May Reward Player Decisions
GTA 6 will also feature an honor system that tracks player behavior. Decisions such as helping or harming innocent NPCs could influence how the world reacts to the player over time.
While it may still be difficult to complete the entire game without killing anyone, Rockstar appears committed to supporting multiple playstyles, including those who want a more peaceful experience.
With GTA 6 scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, fans are eager to see just how far Rockstar will allow players to push non-lethal gameplay in the franchise’s most ambitious entry yet.
